The Philadelphia Union broke a four-year winless streak in Montreal with a 2-1 victory over CF Montréal on Saturday night, May 3, at Stade Saputo.

The hard-fought road win marks the team’s third straight victory — matching their longest streak of the season — and sets a strong tone heading into May.

The Union wasted no time. Just two minutes in, Indiana Vassilev scored his first goal for the club, the fastest of the season so far.

“We set the tone for May,” said Union head coach Bradley Carnell.

Montreal responded before halftime, with Giacomo Vrioni scoring the equalizer in the final moments of the first half.

In the second half, Philadelphia’s defense held strong.

“I thought the back line was magnificent tonight,” added Carnell.

Then came the breakthrough. In the 84th minute, Mikael Uhre scored his second goal of the season, tying Julián Carranza for fifth-most goals in Union MLS history (34).

“We found a way to win in the end, and that’s always a sign of a good team,” Carnell said.

The Union return home to host Indy Eleven in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Subaru Park.
